Celebra La Vida Con Salud (Celebrate a Healthy Life) is a national Hispanic health campaign created to help educate Hispanics about disease prevention and treatment of major illnesses disproportionately impacting the U.S. Hispanic population. Joining the Celebra campaign for the 2009 tour is the Pfizer – Helpful Answers and American Legacy Foundation.
The main objectives of the Celebra campaign are to:
- Promote healthy lifestyles and disease prevention
- Encourage Latinos to take charge of their own health
- Celebrate the benefits of good health within families and communities
HEALTH TOUR The Celebra campaign is anchored by a 8 to 10-city health tour. The tour kicked off in Spring of 2009. Tour stops include cities will include: Atlanta, Chicago, Boston, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Washington DC. Click HERE for the 2009 schedule.
Messages on prevention and action focus on leading health disparities among Latinos including diabetes, cancer, HIV/AIDS, heart-related diseases, infant mortality, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), immunizations and nutrition.
Participants of the health tour receive free health information from federal and local agencies and free medical screenings including blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose, which are provided by local community-based healthcare organizations and hospitals. The festivals also include youth play areas where children and adolescents are encouraged to adopt active lifestyles.
ON-AIR Celebra health messages air on radio stations across the country. One of the largest Spanish-language radio station groups is Entravision, a campaign partner. Each local radio station provides health vignettes, musical entertainment, contests, giveaways and local talent to the health festivals. In addition, a weekly, one-hour, on-air health segment with renowned medical expert, Elmer Huerta, M. D., M.P. H., "Prevenir Es Salud" (Prevention is Health), will air on 18 stations across the country. The Celebra campaign includes a one-hour talk show on local AM Spanish-language stations in each tour market. COMMUNITY The Celebra campaign brings together many elements to form a community partnership centered on the main principles of this campaign. Our community composed of government agencies and organizations, business and nonprofit organizations, hospitals, clinics, and individuals across the country is the driving force behind all of our efforts
